Assistant professor and NMSU DanceSport coach Hannah Cole has been appointed to national board
DanceSport coach Hannah Cole, an assistant professor in the College of Education, has been appointed USA Dance Director of the College Network. This appointment is on the USA Dance Governing Council, and she is one of six voting members on the board.
USA Dance is the principle governing organization of all amateur competitive and social dancing in the country. It is linked to the World DanceSport Federation, which governs all international competitive amateur dancing.
"It is also an amazing opportunity for the DanceSport program and for the university as it will put me in direct contact with every college DanceSport program across the nation," she said. "It will allow me to positively impact the direction of college DanceSport athletics programs and will give great exposure to our very new and wonderful programs here at NMSU."
Cole coaches the NMSU DanceSport Company, which is a creative and athletic dance team comprised of dance program majors and minors who represent NMSU in regional and national DanceSport competitions. During the 2013-2014 academic year, NMSU DanceSport collected four national championship titles, four runner-up national titles and nearly 30 national finalists in the top six.
NMSU is the only university in the country to offer a master's degree in the teaching of dance with a DanceSport emphasis.
