Honoring Diversity – Academic and Leadership Stoles

Honoring the achievements of our diverse student populations at New Mexico State University is the driving force behind the Hispanic Faculty/Staff Caucus Academic and Leadership Stole.  Honoring diversity through the use of graduation stoles is a tradition that was established in the spring of 2004.

The Academic and Leadership Stoles are awarded to graduating students who are either Latino/Latina, leaders in ethnic student organizations, have excelled academically, and/or have displayed exemplary leadership qualities on campus or in our community. For a student to be fully considered for this honor, a Nomination Form must be completed in full and submitted to the HFSC.  Nominees will be notified via email if awarded an Academic and Leadership Stole.

We are pleased to announce that nominations for both Graduation Stoles and Year-End Awards are now being accepted. Please keep in mind that ALL nominations are due by April 26, 2013, at 12:00 noon.

Both of the nomination processes are now electronic and should be completed online by clicking on the following links:

HFSC Spring 2013 Award Nomination Form: http://saemweb-d.nmsu.edu/diversity/hfsc-spring-2013-award-nominations/

If you know a student or students who are graduating on May 11, 2013, please take the time to nominate them for a stole. This is a great way to recognize our graduating students. This applies to students graduating from any of our community colleges or obtaining their Bachelor's, Master's or doctorate degrees from NMSU. We are also requesting that nominators help defray the cost of the stole, if possible.  Stoles cost $25 each.

In addition to the stoles we award at the end of each semester, every Spring the Caucus also recognizes an outstanding senior and junior faculty member, an outstanding professional staff member, an outstanding mentor and an outstanding graduate student. We strongly encourage you to also nominate any individuals that you feel are worthy of such recognition.

Please also be sure to save the date for Our End-Of-Year Celebration, which will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the West Ballroom of Corbett Center. At that time, we will be awarding the stoles and recognize our award recipients.
