Festival of Colors
GLBTQA performers, information tables, and lunch. This is a social and informative event about the GLBTQ community. GLBTQ organizations from across the nation and across different NMSU departments will be present to help educate our campus about issues that affect the GLBTQ community.

"The Laramie Project"
This film portrays the true story of the murder of Matthew Shepherd, a young gay man growing up on Laramie Wyoming. This brutal killing brought a wave of media attention on the issue of hate crimes against gays and lesbians. This film portrays all of the individuals involved in the case including Matthew’s family and the family of his murderer.

Tuesday April 17th
Keynote speaker Judy Shepard

The Legacy of Matthew Shepard: Speaking from a mother's perspective, diversity speaker Judy Shepard has made the prevention of hate crimes the focus of her efforts, and urges her audiences to make their schools and communities safer for everyone, regardless of their race, sex, religion, or gender identity and/or expression.
NMSU’s Barnes and Nobles will be selling Judy Shepard’s book The Meaning of Matthew: My Son's Murder in Laramie, and a World Transformed before and after the event for $20. This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. There will also be a cash bar.

Wednesday April 18th
Keynote Speaker Eric Alva

An Iraq War veteran and gay rights activist, Eric Alva discusses his role in the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and what it meant to stand next to President Barack Obama as he signed the law. By using his own experiences as an example, he discusses difficulties faced by gays and lesbians serving in the military, and he urges audiences to support the LGBT community members who serve our country.

Thursday April 19th
Safe Zone Training

Provided by the Sexual and Gender Diversity Resource Center. Safe Zone Training provides more GLBTQ awareness within the NMSU community and helps to ensure that we are truly a safe campus. Teaching our campus community about the unique experiences of GLBTQ people allows more visibility and understanding of the diversity of our peers.

Professional performers from New Mexico rock the stage in full drag. Come celebrate diversity in gender expression and get your socks rocked off at the same time! Free refreshments will be provided.

Friday April 20th
Lavender Graduation and Recognition Dinner

Graduating students will be recognized for their hard work, leadership and commitment to diversity with Academic and Leadership Diversity Stoles at this bi-annual event. Tickets are $20. Please contact the SGDRC at 575-646-7031 or sgdrc@nmsu.edu for more information.
