Resource Center Staff

Hey everyone, my name is Megan Hernandez and I’m one of the office assistants here at the Sexual & Gender Diversity Resource Center (SGDRC for short). This is currently my fifth year here at NMSU and I have loved each and every year. I will be graduating in May with a Bachelors of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and 3 minors. But have no fear I’ll be back in the fall to hopefully start the MBA program.
The Sexual & Gender Diversity Resource Center has become my third home away from home; my apartment being my second home away from home of course. I’ve been with SGDRC since we were located in a corner room on the 2nd floor of Garcia Dorms, were opened based on volunteers and were called the GLBTQ Resource Center. Needless to say, I’m proud and humble to see how we have grown from a corner room to a department that will consist of a four room suite in Regents Rows off of Stewart Street. I believe the combination of baby steps, encouragement/support of several different amazing people and having the passion to push forward have created a successful resource center here at New Mexico State University. I look forward to another thriving year full of challenges, excitement and the chance to make a difference. Stop by and meet me sometime!

My name is Patrick Schuler and I am a Senior graduating in May with a BA in Government. I have worked at the SGDRC since it was located on the second floor of Garcia Hall hidden away in the corner. Since then I have seen the SGDRC grow from something more than a place that offers resources to the LGBT community of NMSU. I have seen it transform into a real symbol of NMSU's conitnued dedication to diversity. I look forward to this upcoming year to continue to fulfill our purpose and provide more programs and resources to our campus and our community at large.

I would like to welcome you to our center! My name is Sharna Horn and I am the coordinator for the Sexual and Gender Diversity Resource Center. I am currently a second year Counseling Psychology doctoral student in the College of Education. My goal is to graduate in a little over two years and begin my career helping student’s live happier and healthier lives. I am grateful to the journey that has afforded me the opportunity to live in a variety of states and gain a greater perspective on the work that I am doing. I have to thank Riley my dog for providing a great balance between my obligations at school, work, and home. As Roger Caras quoted, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”
Our center provides a safe space and location for members of the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual, and Ally community at NMSU. Students can utilize our computers, magazines, books, or movies while waiting for class or meeting new friends here at the center. We also provide outreach educational presentations, panels, tabling on campus for classes or organizations surrounding topics that affect the LGBTQAA community. I invite you to come by to meet our staff and let us know how we can help you!
