The Experience

Ensuring Safe, High‑Quality Food: NMSU’s Curriculum Integrates Preservation Techniques, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Science

This multidisciplinary field applies scientific disciplines to develop new food products as well as the processes designed to improve food safety and the quality of foods. The FSTE program integrates courses in chemistry, microbiology, nutrition and engineering to provide a holistic understanding of food science. Students engage in coursework that includes labs and field experiences, as well as internships, to enhance their preparedness for employment or graduate school.

Through partnerships with industry leaders and organizations such as Mizkan Americas, USDA – ARS, and Glanbia, students gain practical experience in real-world settings. These internships provide valuable insights into the food industry and enhance career readiness.

Scholarships Available

Get up to 100% of tuition covered with the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship.**

The Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology consists of 120 credits. To earn this degree, you need to complete all University degree requirements, which include General Education requirements, Viewing a Wider World requirements and elective credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 300 or above.
