Cultivating Crops & Careers: NMSU’s Horticulture B.S. Blends Plant Propagation, Crop Production, Landscape Design & Nursery Management

Horticulture at NMSU opens the door to a dynamic field that blends science, creativity and hands-on problem-solving. You will explore every stage of plant production, from understanding soil health and pest management to mastering greenhouse operations, crop cultivation and landscape design. Because horticulture touches everything from food systems to environmental restoration, this program prepares you to make a meaningful impact in both your community and the industry.

Horticulture includes a diverse set of topics that relate to fruit, vegetable and ornamental crops. As a student, you will gain knowledge and practical experience across an array of different areas. This broad foundation allows you to discover your interests while building skills that transfer across many career paths.

To earn this degree, you need to complete all University degree requirements, which include General Education requirements, Viewing a Wider World requirements and elective credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 300 or above.

The Turfgrass Science and Management concentration offers a comprehensive education that combines scientific principles with practical applications in turfgrass management. This program is designed to prepare students for diverse careers in maintaining and managing golf courses, athletic fields, parks and other recreational areas.

The Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a concentration in Turfgrass Science and Management consists of 120 credits. To earn this degree, you need to complete all University degree requirements, which include General Education requirements, Viewing a Wider World requirements and elective credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 300 or above.
