The Communication Studies BA at NMSU stands out for its blend of theory, real-world application, and cultural relevance. Located in a diverse borderland region, the program emphasizes intercultural awareness, social impact, and hands-on experience through required internships. Students benefit from small class sizes, close faculty mentorship, and flexible electives that prepare them for careers in fields like PR, law, nonprofits, and media. With a strong focus on human connection and practical communication skills, the program equips graduates to lead and adapt in a wide range of professional settings. Students must satisfy a one-year second-language requirement, or substitute it with an approved experiential alternative.

The BA in Communication Studies program consists of 120 credits. To earn this degree, you need to complete all university degree requirements, which include General Education requirements, Viewing a Wider World requirements, and elective credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 300 or above.
